The acquisition process of Rovio Entertainment, the developer behind Angry Birds, by Sega has now been officially finalized. This acquisition plan was initially unveiled in April by Sega Sammy Holdings, outlining its intention to acquire all outstanding shares and options of Rovio for €706 million ($776 million).

To commemorate the successful merger, the official Sega Twitter account shared an image showcasing Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles in collaboration with the Angry Birds characters. The tweet warmly welcomed Rovio to the Sega family and conveyed enthusiasm for the upcoming joint adventures.

Marked as a friendly takeover, Rovio’s board of directors openly endorsed the tender offer, contributing to the acquisition’s smooth progression. Sega’s strategic objective revolves around fortifying its mobile game portfolio by tapping into Rovio’s adeptness in live service mobile game operations. With Rovio’s collaboration, Sega aims to introduce its existing and upcoming titles to the global mobile gaming arena.

Beyond the realm of mobile gaming, Rovio aspires to diversify its platform presence. Sega has assured its commitment to supporting Rovio’s ambitions in this expansion endeavor.

The successful culmination of this acquisition underlines Sega’s dedication to accelerating its footprint within the swiftly growing mobile gaming sector. By amalgamating their respective brands, characters, fan bases, corporate ethos, and capabilities, substantial synergies are anticipated to be unlocked in the onward journey.
