London-based startup Electric Sheep has recently secured $500,000 (£393k) in an oversubscribed pre-seed funding round for its innovative cloud-native product, Spotlight. The funding was led by Dasein Capital, Spatial Capital, and Look AI Ventures, bringing substantial expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), visual effects, and scaling projects. The additional funds will be used to further develop and enhance the capabilities of Spotlight.

Spotlight, Electric Sheep’s flagship product, is specifically designed to automate the process of background removal in videos. Its advanced technology can process one second of footage in less than a minute, generating an editable layer that empowers visual effects (VFX) artists to make precise adjustments using splines. This eliminates the need for green screens during filming, giving creators the freedom to capture authentic scenes without compromising visual quality.

Gary Palmer, the CEO of Electric Sheep, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with experienced investors who share the company’s vision. The cloud and AI platform developed by Electric Sheep has been recognized for its transformative potential by industry experts. Spatial Capital’s partner, Steven Sullivan, a former senior technology officer at LucasFilm, highlighted the platform’s ability to enhance fundamental VFX workflows and streamline time-consuming post-production tasks.
